With Tamiya’s 1/16 scale Feldmarschall Rommel plastic figure, model-making has entered the twenty-first century in technology, while remaining firmly rooted in the mid-1900’s in historical appeal. The Rommel kit is part of Tamiya’s extensive line of Second World War German fighting figures, which also include: a tank crewman, a pilot, two brands of infantrymen, and a machine gunner.
Each model is exquisite in its attention to detail, with lavishly structured body contours displaying the ripples and creases in clothing that would exist by virtue of the care in which uniforms, hats, and boots would have been worn. Moreover, in the case of Rommel, the great general strikes a confident pose very much in fitting with his historic persona – a stalwart battle commander at the height of his military prowess.
Fans of military history will find much to appreciate in this expertly crafted piece. With the time, attention, and care that constructing and painting the model will require, hobbyists will receive ample reward for their efforts simply by virtue of the masterpiece that results when their labor is complete.
