.38 Special: Live at Sturgis

.38 Special was always a classic rock-and-roll band for adults - a man's band if you will. And in their latter years, as they have continued to tour well past their prime, they have managed to maintain their grit, the dirt under their fingernails, and the ripped t-shirts and cut-off blue jean shorts of the grungiest bands imaginable.
With the ultimate audio treatment from Silverline Records, .38 Special now is available on the DVD-Audio format in a live performance making the band sound as good as they ever did in their prime. "Live at Sturgis" depicts one of their classic concerts in the ultimate aural experience, with all of the old favorites contained here, including "Twentieth Century Fox," "Travelin' Band" and "Back in the USA." One stunning highlight on the disc is a stomping medley of classics, from "Back to Paradise," to "Teacher Teacher," to "Chain Lightnin'," and many others. This is actually the way in which I prefer to hear the band - short snippets of the hits pulled together in a concise, rapid-fire medley package.
"Sturgis" does not depict the band at their absolute musical best, as they seem to have lost a bit of their edge over the years. Yet the fans remain rabid, and seem to enjoy their favorites now just as well as they did in their heyday. Regardless of whether or not you're a fan, "Live at Sturgis" is a decent representation of latter-day .38 Special. Grab it on DVD-A as soon as you can - this is going to be the best format to hear the epitome of a man's band for quite some time...
